Sightseeing on foot: how far everything actually is

Krakow stays

What is closer from this side of the river

The memorial sites. Ghetto Heroes Square, the Eagle Pharmacy and Schindler's Factory are all in Podgorze. From the Old Town they are a thirty to forty-minute walk or a tram ride; from here, ten to twenty minutes.

The viewpoints. Krakus Mound is twenty-five minutes uphill from the door and shows the entire city. The Vistula boulevards start a minute away and run past Wawel towards Salwator, which is the best flat walk in Krakow.

What is further: the Main Square, twenty-five minutes on foot, and the northern part of the Old Town around the Barbican, closer to thirty-five. Both are one tram ride away, and the walk passes through Kazimierz.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I see everything on foot?

Everything central, yes. Nowa Huta, the airport and the day trips need transport.

How many sights fit into one day?

Three or four if they are in the same district, two if you cross the city between them. That is the argument for grouping by area.

Which sights need tickets booked in advance?

Schindler's Factory, the Rynek Underground and the Royal Apartments at Wawel. All use timed entry.

Is there a museum pass worth buying?

Only if you plan several branches of the Museum of Krakow in a few days. For a typical two or three-day visit, single tickets work out cheaper.

What is the best free thing to see?

The walk along the boulevards to Wawel, and the view from Krakus Mound. Both cost nothing and neither is crowded early.
