District comparison
Where to stay in Krakow, district by district

Krakow stays
The four realistic choices
Old Town. Everything at the door, the highest prices, and street noise until the early hours. Best for a single night, a first visit with limited time, or anyone who wants to walk out of the door into the Main Square.
Kazimierz. The food and nightlife district, fifteen minutes from the Square, full of bars, synagogues and small restaurants. Loud at weekends in a way that people underestimate, superb the rest of the time.
Old Podgorze. Across the river from Kazimierz, residential, quiet after ten, with the Vistula boulevards, Schindler's Factory and Krakus Mound close by. Fifteen to twenty-five minutes from everything central, which is the price of sleeping well.
Zablocie. Converted warehouses, two major museums, cafes, very little residential life. Good if you want space and modern buildings, dull in the evening.
We are in Old Podgorze, so treat this as informed rather than neutral. The trade-offs above are the real ones.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Which district suits a first visit?
Old Town or Kazimierz for the shortest walks, Podgorze if you would rather sleep well and walk a little more.
Which is best for families with small children?
Podgorze, for the quiet, the park three minutes away and the traffic-free boulevards.
Where is the best food?
Kazimierz, comfortably. Podgorze and Zablocie have solid options without the queues.
Is anywhere in central Krakow unsafe?
Not really. The busiest bar streets in Kazimierz at three in the morning call for the usual city sense, nothing more.
Does it matter which side of the river I stay on?
Only for noise and price. Both sides are walkable to everything central.
